The answer was what would become the SSm5 Sonic Shaper!Based on the original Guyatone EX-2 Exciter model (never sold in the USA), the SSm5 is a harmonic booster pedal that, by emphasizing specific frequencies, can offer the guitarist a broad tonal palette. The key to the SSm5 is the Shape control, which adjusts the harmonic emphasis. Using the SSm5, a guitarist can tune in specific frequencies to stand out in a band mix without raising their volume level. At first, trying this pedal out was a bit strange because I wasn't exactly sure how it would work. I put it between my guitar & my amp & did the usual play with the knobs to see what would happen. Then, after I had what sounded like a nice clean tone with my favorite pick-up, I decided to try switching pick-ups & different combinations.................... & that's when the magic happened. This pedal is amazing as it brings out what tones my guitar has like nothing I've ever done or heard before. Changes in my selection produced amazing tonal variations like I have never heard before. It will probably take a video demo to show just what this pedal can do as the only good one I've seen so far did nothing like what I heard. Well worth the cost of this pedal & a big WELL DONE to Guyatone!
