By Colin Manning
To put it simply, this pedal is the best one I've ever tried. The first time I used it was in an audition for my band's drummer (for 3 hours, then another 4 jamming with the band after he had to leave) and I set it to a "safe" / modern tone rather than experimenting. The tone I got was identical to what I would get when I had my amp distortion on and my tube screamer on. The day after I started to experiment with the sound, it hit the old (Kill Em All era) Metallica sound, the Pantera (Dimebag) sound, 70s hard rock with a more modern tone (I was running it through a Traynor amp), and a tone more I can't even remember. I eventually settled on the tone on the card / pamphlet that was in the box (Old School Swedish Death Metal) and couldn't be happier with the tone.Since I'm a prog-metal rhythm guitarist, I'm always the one who plays the clean stuff and, before, I'd have to turn on a footswitch and a stompbox to get to my distorted tone. Now I just have to hit the switch on this pedal and I can transition much more naturally between sections. The only thing I found is that if I have it on and my octaver or cry baby pedal on as well, the volume is greatly reduced (I can only hear the cry baby effect and barely any of the guitar at times). Thankfully, since I kept my other distortion pedal, I can use that for any distorted section that makes use of those other 2 pedals.Simply put, this pedal is the definition of Metal and it was more than worth the price.
