superb dynamic headphones
By Diminished Capacitor
The Ultrasone PRO 750 is the replacement for the Proline 750. This version, which is the latest, is in black and gray, rather than blue. Even though I already own the Denon AH-D2000, another closed back design, I found the Ultrasone PRO 750 at a steep discount and purchased it.The PRO 750 comes in a black hard case, and includes a spare pair of ear cushions, and two cables: a straight cable about 2.6 feet long, which terminates in a 3.5mm plug; and a coiled cable, about 10 feet long at its furthest extent, which terminates in a 1/4 inch plug. The straight cable is clearly designed for MP3 players and computer audio. If you're using the PRO 750 with a headphone amp or the output of an integrated amp or receiver, you'll probably want to use the coiled cable.Although the only visible metal parts are the plates with the company logo on the back of the transducer housings, the PRO 750's plastic construction seems quite rugged and well-finished. Since most headphones at any price point except the most expensive are mainly plastic, Ultrasone can't be faulted here. And the ability to switch cables is a nice feature. The PRO 750 at first seems a tight fit, but loosens up quickly. Straight out of the box, like most headphones, the bass is uncontrolled and the treble peaky. Within hours the sound begins to smooth out.To my ears, the PRO 750 has 4 main virtues:1. The bass is plentiful, taut, and well-defined.2. The transient attack is excellent, perhaps the best I've heard.3. The soundstage, while no wider than other headphones, has greater perceived depth.4. An open acoustic. The PRO 750's competition in terms of sonic signature isn't the Denon AH-D2000, but the Grado line of headphones, and in price, specifically the Grado SR325is. I haven't heard the SR325is (which is said to have more bass than the SR225), but I own the SR80i, and I've owned the SR60 and SR225. The PRO 750 is similar to the Grados in that it is mercilessly revealing in the mid-range and somewhat bright, with no difficulty handling sibilants. Where it trounces the Grados is in bass reproduction--and it's also more comfortable. The earpads packed in the case appear to be slightly thicker than those already fitted on the PRO 750. I found the thicker earpads more comfortable. Both the Ultrasone sound and the Grado sound have their advocates and detractors. Ideally you should audition any headphone before purchase, but that isn't always possible. The next best thing is to read reviews and comments on Head-Fi. Make sure you have return privileges if you don't like the headphone.Through my Fiio E9 headphone amp, I find the Ultrasone PRO 750 a rewarding listen and at the top of its price point--but shop around, because prices for it vary widely.

Incredible Headphones for a decent price...
By Sista Maggie
These headphones were my first foray into the higher tier of audio - audiophile, if you will. I was extremely nervous buying my first set as the price is easily thrice what I was previously willing to pay for headphones. Not only that, but Ultrasone was a company I had never really heard of. I was looking at several other headphones, such as the AKG K701 and the Beyerdynamic DT880, but ultimately took the chance on these because of the reviews I have read on them. I am so glad I took the chance - these headphones are OUTSTANDING!!! The vocals are so clear and precise. Mids are beautiful and the bass is so tight and distinct that it feels so much like you are in the same room as the musicians. I really can't say enough how awesome these headphones are. For the price, these are easily the best bang-for-your-buck headphones on the market. They are surprising as well. I knew it would come with some sort of casing or protection, but was floored to see how well made the case was for them. Very sturdy and rigid. The only complaint I have on that is how easily it attracts lint - the fabric pattern and color make the case a literal magnet for pet hair and such. In addition, they came with two cords to attach them to your audio source, a straight 1/8" minijack cord and a coiled 1/4" standard cord. The cords are well constructed with durable yet flexible covering and gold connections at each end. I imagine they would take quite the punishment over the life of the headphones, so they're built like it - quite impressive! I don't foresee that to be a weak link at any point in time. Also included in the case is a demo CD of classical music to demonstrate the simulated surround capabilities that I've yet to listen to, but plan on taking the opportunity to listen when I get a working CD player again soon.As for the headphones themselves, they are also extremely well built. A durable plastic is used throughout construction. In fact, it pretty much is the construction with the only metal being the decorative external emblems on each can. The plastic does have some flex and give, and conforms well to many head sizes. The range of the can adjustment also permits comfort to all who would use them. One thing of note is the use of velour coverings on all points of contact to the head. The headband and ear pads feature a lush grayish purple (or purplish gray - whatever) velour that is quite soft. However, I did find a fault with the velour. While it is nice on the skin and looks great, it is also susceptible to lint, just like the case. I frequently find small fibers of fabric, dog hair and dust on them that needs to be cleaned quite frequently to keep them looking good. A minor inconvenience, but one that is noteworthy. An extra set of earpads is also included in the case and are a lush velvet as well. Other reviewers have noted how the spares seem to feel different and thicker than the ones that come on the headphones. I haven't observed as such, but it does sound plausible. Of course, they may just be spares as well. I assume the latter stance, as they look and feel nearly identical to what is already on the headphones to me.Sound quality is superb. I listen to many different genres of music and they can handle whatever I throw at them. I mostly listen to alternative rock, club and dance and the Pro 750 can handle them all without complaint. One thing I have heard with the higher grade headphones is how they mostly are reference and do not emphasize any part of the listening experience. Of particular note is how the bass on many seems to be deflated. I did notice a very stark contrast with these headphones compared to others I have listened to of lower quality in that department. Bass is definitely not emphasized like you'll find in Beats and Skullcandy, and I have definitely fallen in love with how real and raw my music sounds with these. Because I listen to a lot of dance and club music and bass is essential to the full enjoyment of this genre, I was concerned if I would like how different the bass would be. The Pro 750's bass profile is superb - better than anything I've listened to previously. The bass is so tight with these and distinct that I can't even compare them to anything. It is also powerful enough that I find it more than sufficient with my music. They really are in a class by themselves in that respect. The AKGs and Beyerdynamics have a similar profile, but not nearly as distinct - bass is a bit more muddy on those compared to the Pro 750 to me. Over time as they've gotten burned in, they have lost that edge a bit. But it's still very distinct and colored and I love it. I would say I've got maybe 50-75 hours on them so far and they sound infinitely better when they get some time on them. I was worried burning them in would be a pain because I'd have to get 100 hours or more in before I got halfway decent sound, but they sounded very good right out of the box and have just gotten better and better as the burn-in has progressed. That was quite unexpected! There has been quite a ruckus about the simulated surround sound called 'S-Logic' on these headphones. Some claim it works great and some claim they notice no difference. Personally, I notice it more in some songs than others. I think it may have to do with how a song is recorded and whether the song is recorded with real instuments or via electronic instrumentation. For instance, a lot of my dance music is electronic and sounds quite flat with the 750s. Flat meaning it sounds like everything in the song is on the same level, similar to a sheet of paper. However, take something with some guitars, drums, piano and bass and these headphones are incredible. My strongest example I have heard yet would be The Ultimate Collection from The Who. That album has a very distinct sound though these that almost feels 3-D. It's almost as if you can reach out and touch the soundwaves. I can't really put into words how I feel when I listen to that album with the 750s, but it's kinda like an OBE where you're kinda floating in air and sound is all around you. And no, I don't smoke anything or take drugs! So, I believe in the simulated surround sound effect that Ultrasone claims they design into their headphones. But like I said, that effect is more prominent in some music than in others. In some ways, it is a little distracting at times as well...I originally had them running straight off the headphone jack on my phone and iPod for a while and they sounded good that way, but not anything spectacular. Then, about two or three weeks after I got them, I got a Bravo Audio V2 tube headphone amplifier and was floored by how different they sounded! The Bravo brought out what those headphones are capable of, so I would HIGHLY recommend running these through an amplifier. Even better if you can run them through a tube amp - they shine with the coloring a tube amp puts on an audio signal. I also have a CMoy mint tin amplifier I bought and they sound good through those as well, but very different. I had always heard tubes can make a huge difference in the listening experience and I am now a firm believer. My setup is fairly cheap compared to what you could spend, but I am over-the-moon happy with how my music sounds with this combination. It's almost like the Bravo was made for the 750. Yes, it's that good!At the very least, I would recommend a strong consideration of these if you are looking at the K701 or DT880. The Pro 750 is unquestionably on par with those headphones and is actually better in my opinion. If you are even halfway considering these, just go for it! You will not be disappointed. I was deadset on the K701 until I happened across these. I never even listened to them when I bought them as I ordered them via Amazon and took the chance. I am so extremely happy that I did. It was an extemely risky gamble for me and I normally wouldn't have considered plopping the money down without some first-hand knowledge of the sound quality first. I'm not sure what compelled me to do so, but it was totally worth it.

Build quality is excellent Pro750
By Zaneco
Bought these in December on a lightning round deal after reading other reviews here. The build quality, case and accessories are excellent. I own three other quality headphones, different brands and styles all in the same price range. The sound signature on all of them are different so I like the variety. All have their pros and cons and most depend on what your listening to and at what volume. These I can say are the best built and have the best accessories. They have a good punchy bass and have the deepest bass, yet it doesn't impose it on the other frequencies. They sound good at all listening levels and are the best sounding ones at loud volumes. You can really crank them up with a good amp and they sound great never harsh or grainy. The midrange and treble is a slight bit warmer but not dull in any sence. The all around sound is smooth and pleasent. Isolation is good as is the fit. The cons They are heavy and big and will get your ears warm but thats the price you pay for the build quality. I've used these at home with a good amp and on bussiness trips, I don't think they were made for everyday commuting? Are these the best I own, for some music yes. Overall I would recommend these highly for under two bills.
