I spent a long time researching SSDs before taking the plunge. I checked out all of the mainstream offerings from Intel, OCZ, etc, and familiarized myself with the different controller options available. As of right now it seems that the SandForce 1200 controller is the best bang for the buck. There are several SSDs that use this controller and are thus more or less the exact same drive with slightly different firmware. In my opinion, this is the one to get.Pros: Amazingly fast. Read/write speeds as advertised using ATTO to benchmark. I get something like 280 read and 270 write. After BIOS post, it takes my computer about 10 seconds to load Windows 7 to a usable desktop. Programs open virtually instantly. Gives me a 7.7 WEI. The new firmware on the "deluxe" version of this drive is the fastest that you can get right now for this controller. This drive ships in an awesome die cut foam box that really protects it well. Also, mine says "deluxe" on the drive itself.Cons: Temp monitoring programs haven't figured out how to read SSDs correctly, and so mine says that it's at 1 degree Celsius at all times. Not that big of a deal. These drives will get cheaper really quickly as the technology advances, but alas, that is technology for you.If you are using old hardware (e.g., SATA I, non-AHCI board) you won't get the full potential out of it.Other thoughts: Mushkin customer support is amazing, and the forums are very helpful. I suggest doing some reading over there before taking the plunge just so you know exactly what to do. I chose this drive other other brands because of Mushkin's reputation and customer service. They're also headquartered in Colorado, so I feel good about what I'm buying.

By A. Helfer
I recently picked up on of these Callisto Deluxe SSDs to use as the Win 7 boot drive in a new system I built. It's blazing fast -- from "on" to full boot of Windows 7 is less than 20 seconds, and that includes the mobo splash screen. 60 gigs is plenty of space to use as a boot drive, especially if you load up your less intensive programs on another drive. Just make sure to do all the usual Win 7 tweaks to ensure longevity and performance (e.g., turn off defrag, eliminate page file on this drive, etc.).The packaging was really good -- the drive comes encased in a foam "book," so even if Amazon fails to put padding in the box, the drive should arrive unscathed. It also comes with a 3.5" adapter to fit in a desktop drive bay.I've had good luck with several sets of Mushkin memory modules, from DDR to DDR3, and this seems like another reliable product from them. Highly recommended. As an afterthought, I should mention that Mushkin is an American company. Although some of the components are probably manufactured abroad, their products are assembled in the United States. It's good to be able to support a high-tech American company that gets its products right, has high quality, and features responsive customer service, unlike some vendors based in Taiwan, etc.

This unit comes with a 3.5" adapter tray in a nice high density foam packaging and box.Bought one for my Samsung Netbook. Wanted to increase the performance on the netbook from the conventional 160gb.Performance is very good, even on the low powered Atom NetbookLinear Read Middle : 123.5MB/s, Random Read : 127.3MB/s, Buffered Read : 123.3MB/sec, Average Read Access: 0.12 msWhat really makes it scream is when its connected to a more updated desktop computer with ICH10 chipsetLinear Read Middle : 235.7MB/s, Random Read : 267.6MB/s, Buffered Read : 235.5MB/sec, Average Read Access: 0.06 msThese numbers better than my X25-M Intel 160gb SSD, my Kingston 128gb SSDNOW, and my Crucial 256GB M225 SSD.40gb and 60gb performanced the same. Both using the 340 Firmware. Currently recommending these units for all my installs/upgrades.
