Product Description
The Frye Company is the oldest continuously operated shoe company in the United States. Founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a well-to-do shoemaker from England, and family-run until 1945, Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers on both sides of America's Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-American war, and by Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. When home-steading drew adventurous New England families to the West during the mid and late 1800's many of the pioneers wore Frye Boots for the long journey. Today Frye remains true to its roots with its line of heritage boots, but continues to innovate as it introduces chic new handbags, pumps, and sandals to its collection.

Tough boots!
By Sophia
These are really tough boots! The leather is super-thick and durable. Mine even had a 3" scar on the shaft of the boot, which is hardly noticeable in the blackness of the boot, and I take to add a really interesting bit of personality to boots, rather than as a defect. I feel like I could stomp around in all kinds of puddles and woods and snowdrifts in them, while staying snug and warm. The rubber sole seems nice. It's pretty stiff though, and doesn't have big lugs for traction. I'm sure these boots will break-in.Sizing-wise, I'd say they're probably pretty snug. I normally wear size 6.5-7 in shoes, and ordered these in 7.5 as they were the nearest size available, and I often size up in boots. They are not loose at all! If anything, they're still quite snug over the instep. They definitely do not feel big in any way. Some cons to note though:- Although the whole boot is lined in shearling, there are two prominent rectangular leather "Frye" logo pieces sewn onto the insole over the heel portion. These very noticeably cover up the shearling and you can feel them under your heel, particularly when barefoot in the boots. They didn't bother me enough to return the boots though.- Also, there are shearling seams which you can kind of feel from where the shaft portion connects with the boot portion.- They are stiff and heavy. Do not expect Ugg-like comfort here. Also they seem heavier than the "Rogan" women's shearling boot, also Frye, which is much softer and lighter despite the fact that it goes up to the calf, owing to the thinner leather they use. These are a great deal on sale as Frye's seem so rarely to go on sale. Snap them up for the upcoming winter! The style is timeless.

A different style!

I really love these boots and I'm disappointed to be sending them back but I was surprised to find that these boots are completely lined in shearling wool. So they are winter boots and probably fit snugger than some other models. This model is made in Mexico. The standard boot is made in the USA. I was looking for a more year round boot.

Perfect boot for cold snowy winters!
By Melissa Buss
I've always wanted a pair of Frye Engineer boots. When I saw these with shearling lining and at a sale price, I just had to have them. I think I'll be wearing these a lot more often than the Uggs I have. They're a little snug out of the box, but I have no doubt that they'll break in beautifully. The color is a beautiful tan and brown, much nicer than the orangey tone in the stock photo. They have a nice sturdy feel to them, I can't wait until they're broken in. I tried them on without socks, just to see how they'd feel. You do definitely feel the tag under the heel and the seam on the top of the foot is scratchy and uncomfortable. With socks you don't notice either of these issues.
