Good faucet but some quality issues

This review is for the 538-MPU-DST. "MPU" stands for "Metal pop-up" which means the underneath parts of the faucet are metal instead of the plastic of the 538-DST. I have heard arguments for one material vs. the other (durability vs. no corrosion). I decided to go with metal.The faucet is attractive and has a nice weight to it though it does have a seam on the faucet spout that is not easy to see in the pictures. The installation instructions were more complicated than they had to be and spread out of order among a poster-size sheet (not the best medium when crammed under a sink) but I have done these before so it was not terribly difficult with a helper on top to make sure things are lined up.The faucet dispenses water with good flow and seems to respond more quickly to tempurature changes though the handle than the old faucet it replaced. The trim plate (required for 3 hole installations) was thin gauge metal but seemed to do the trick. The plate came equipped with a foam gasket to prohibit water penetration.What I did not like was:PEX supply lines - they are very difficult to bend (the manual recommends no smaller than an 8" curve). You can trim them for "custom" installations but I was able to work with the out of the box length.Handle does not operate smoothly - it could be that I got a dud but the handle does not have smooth operation like the Kohler faucets I have used. This is bad because the jerkiness can cause you to go from freezing cold to scalding hot (it does have a movement limiter if you want to control the max temp).Handle was not strait - it is pointed slightly to the left and no amount of adjusting would get it to line up with the spout. The adjustment is very difficult unless you have a long allen key.I am going to call Delta to see if they have heard of these issues and intend to swap the faucet out with a replacement (either through Delta or Amazon). I am dissapointed as I have not had these types of issues with Kohler (though they were not perfect either the products seem to have better quality control).All in all a good faucet but for the money it should not have these issues. Hopefully this was just a defect.

Very sensitive handle, awkward drain lift assembly

When we did a full renovation on our house, we went with Delta for all the plumbing fixtures upon advice from our plumber. Naturally, I checked Amazon because they had the best price with free delivery (they're hard to come by, here in Hawaii). The handle is stiff and very sensitive. A slight movement changes the flow and temperature a lot. Since the handle is pretty stiff, I end up having to tap it with my closed fist to get it to right temp/flow everytime. Maybe if they shaped the handle such that you get better leverage, it would be easier to adjust.Also, the drain plug lift assembly is tucked in the back. The pull handle is essentially a bar. It's location and shape make it very awkward to pull it up. I think they did this to hide the bar.They seem to give priority on the appearance than function. We haven't found any "defects", but I can't say that it's designed very well. It does look nice, though.

I ordered two of these for my bathrooms based on my experience with a similar "Lahara" faucet in my kitchen. The first installation, like many, was complicated by tight quarters but the faucet and drain went in with minimal fuss and worked fine from the get-go. Access was easier for the second faucet and installation was a snap. This unit's drain had a small leak where the pipe screws up into the bottom of the drain valve. Did not happen on the first drain. Wrapped the threads with Teflon tape and all's well. One other thing; the instructions say to use "silicon" to seal the drain flange. Makes a real mess so I used plumber's putty instead. No leaks and cleans up easily. Just bought a Delta Lahara shower set so you might guess that I'm satisfied. The brief leak issue is the only reason I didn't go five stars. Like with lovlies in the bar, "there ain't no 10's." Actually, there are but they tend to ignore me:-(.
