Product Description
The Germanium 4 Big Muff Pi is one amazing stompbox! By stacking the sweet fuzziness of a Big Muff on top of a classic overdrive circuit, the Germanium 4 Big Muff Pi gives Muff fans a hugely flexible Muff. Using four Germanium transistors (two for each side), the Germanium 4 Big Muff Pi creates virtually any kind of distortion you can imagine from mild overdrive to wild cascading fuzz. Plus, there are unique controls like Bias and Volts ("Volts" simulates a dying battery), which lets you fine-tune the distortion sound and add the character that best suits your sonic ambitions with the Germanium 4 Big Muff Pi.

Modern Classic Reborn
By Boba Chux
There are quite a few boutique pedals out there that are awesome, and some mass market pedals that are worth while. For the price of the new G4 Big Muff Pi, worth it doesn't even explain the value ($83?). I own lots of pedals... lots of pedals. As far as fuzz and distortion, I'm all ways getting something new or building something. The past 5 years have been a constant 69 Fuzz Face homemade, and keeley fuzz head. I've been using a Big Green Sovtek Muff since the 90's, the sound is awesome. Others are some of the bigger and not so secret pedals that you see all over place. As far as BMP's I am far from stranger, I own several, I've copied all. This is a different creature. I believe the circuit has been split down the middle (haven't openned it up to really look at and disect) with both sections running it sounds like a germanium standard bmp i've played in the past. But the division between sections is really nice. OD section is very much like a boutique fuzz face and the distortion is more like a brown in the box kind of pedal. This thing is different and is not much like but similar to a standard bmp. If you debate germanium pedals (my favs) this is a wonderful place to start. I've been excited since I saw the G4 announcement and saw it was going to be roughly $100. I got my for less than $83. I've payed $300+ for some pedals that in the end I wasn't impressed. It's a budgitary delight and sounds like fine dining. I haven't even had it long but I believe this is going to be one of those bmp's down the road that everyone wants and won't be able to find. EHX has been making awesome pedals the last few years and really has a masterpiece here. I love BMP fuzz, I'll still use my old greeny, such a signature sound, but one more fav is definitely an explanation for the G4BMP

Great pedal - the way a fuzz should be
By B. Plant
I've owned a few silicone fuzzes over the years and even built a fuzz face from scratch, using vintage germanium transistors. Most sounded cool but really, few produced much of a usable tone. None captured the creamy vintage sound that Hendrix seemed to have with a fuzz. The Electro Harmonix Germanium 4 does that. It does what I imagine what a fuzz pedal should. Smooth overdrive to saturated distortion with lots of room in between. With the G4, which has two separate sections, you get two pedals for the price of one. Plus, you can stack them together to get an even wider range of sounds. The overdrive section ranges from clean boost to mild overdrive. Great for playing blues to classic rock, or for adding boost to a clean signal. The right side, "distortion" part, is more like a conventional fuzz box, but you get the added bonus of bias and volt knobs which give you extra sound options. You can turn both the overdrive and distortion buttons on at the same time for massive distortion sounds. Here, with all the EQ options active, you have a ton of sound possibilities.I love this pedal and, like the other reviewer, I also have a lot to compare this to. For a hundred bucks, this one is a steal and fantastic value. One of my best purchases. Made in the USA and it even comes with a battery in it from the factory!

Multiple tones, all useable
By Joseph
Most versatile distortion in existence. There are several 200 and 300 dollar pedals that do 1 sound very well. This 1oo dollar double pedal does many sounds extremely well. If you write or enjoy more than one style of play you are about to get a pedal you can grow old with.
