By Richard Young
The electronics is awesome. It takes a little practice timing-wise to use it like a sustain pedal for the guitar. But it works. And it's awesome. The reason why I'm not giving it a 5-star rating is because it uses the worst switch you can image. Why would they use a switch that is so small and so loud? I could hear the switch clicks from across the room. Why does it have to make any sound at all? Here's what I did with mine (although it probably voided the warranty): Drill a 3/8" hole on the side of the case opposite the power supply. Install a 1/4" mono jack and wire the two contacts to the original switch (no need to disconnect the original switch). If the red light flickers on and off when you plug in the power it means the wiring is backwards or the positive signal is touching the case. Fix the wiring and close up the case. And then I just plug in a nice piano-like sustain pedal. Make sure you get a pedal with the contacts normally open (N.O.). To be safe, get one with a polarity switch. The M-Audio SP2 is a good pedal for this purpose. The Freeze pedal as-is gets a 4-star rating. With the modifications above it gets a 5-plus-star rating. The piano has had a sustain pedal since they started making pianos. I can't believe it took until now for the guitar to have one too.

The E-H Freeze does all it says it will. It's like having a piano sustain pedal for your guitar. It is not a looper, it will not keep your modulation effects intact, but it will create a seamless perfect snapshot picture of your sound...to last forever if you wish. The controls take a little getting used to, the latch feature is a little hard to double tap off, not consistent, maybe it's me. The "slow" setting is sweet, adjustable fade in and fade out. It also seems to act as a hybrid "latch" setting, hold down for about 5 seconds and it will hold the note until you tap it again and then it starts to fade out. The sound quality is great, maybe a little drop in low end, but crisp and clear.I am so stoked about the creative possibilities I could spit.E-H packs a power supply with the unit 9v-c,thank you (no battery usage).Been playing contemporary christian worship for over 20 yrs, this pedal should have come out years ago, wa happen.Meet your new clone drone friend you'll love it!

I tried this pedal on a whim, based on little more than a couple of magazine reviews I had read. If you are looking for something a bit different, check it out. You can KIND OF acheive the same thing with a loop pedal and using the volume knob to swell in, but this pedal is much more smoooth and musical. To put it simply, you play a note, step on the pedal, and the note you played is "frozen" and conitnues to sound, even as you play other lines over it. Release the pedal and the note stops. With a latch switch you can sustain the note without holding down the pedal. This is my preferred setting. That leaves your feet free to work your other pedals and get some extra mojo.I seriously have zero regrets about this. It's cheap and well crafted, and very musical to use. The first time I plugged it in, I played for an hour with it. That's a good sign.
