Decent quality, but using these as indicaed is asking for disaster

I bought 5 of these sets (for about $100 each) with the idea I would build heavy wooden framework around them. And I did that. And for that purpose, this racking seem to be good. The power coating seems decent and I don't expect rust to be a problem. However, these metal lattice pieces come with junky pieces of wood and tiny screws (with itty bitty drywall inserts) that are suppose to allow you mount these against a wall. Don't even consider it. Particularly not double depth. The weight of these racks loaded is far more than the supplied tiny screws could ever handle in even a mild earthquake...or perhaps someone leaning against the racking.The only other issue is that for some reason folks who build racks (including this one) and wine storage units...designed them 20+ years ago...and then went off to live as a hermit. None of the racking or wine storage I've seen can handle the wide and tall bottles that are prevalent today. And this racking is no exception. It can only handle bottles that are no more than 3.20 inches wide. They say 3.25"...but that's a lie. As such, don't expect to put any modern Burgundy shaped bottle into them. Meaning just about any Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah, White Burgundy, or Red Burgundy bottle of wine. They just won't fit. Only the oldest wine bottles (25+ years ago, when they spent more on the wine, and less on the bottle) will fit. Tall Cabernet style bottles are an issue too, if you chose to use their Double Depth racking adaptors. I don't have that problem, because I spaced the racking pieces farther apart. Something you can't do if you use their parts.In short, buy these for the metal lattice parts...not the hardware that comes with them. And look for the best pricing...as it varies quite a bit on these.

these racks were an inexpensive solution for wine storage, and they work just fine. Some bottles are too big to fit, but not many.
