Inov8 Mudclaw 272 Trail Shoes. This trail shoe is an extremely aggressive outsoled fell, hill, mountain and orienteering shoe. Its durable synthetic upper has dual layer mesh for comfort and protection. The aggressively studded MudclawTM sole is designed specifically to cope with steep mixed terrain when ascending, descending and contouring and is especially good on wet grass and in deep mud. Meta-Flex - this boot incorporates a meta-flex groove which is anatomically aligned in front of the metatarsal heads to provide a natural fore foot flex and protection whilst running. Meta-Shank - New 5 finger meta-shank aligns with each individual metatarsal for greater flexibility when contouring while retaining underfoot impact protection. A softer compound is used on performance product while a firmer compound is used on the endurance product. Met Cradle - The upper webbing support in this boot is anatomically positioned to cradle the fore foot behind the metatarsal heads and provide a secure foot hold whilst running. Bi-Planar Heel Sole design - whereby the heel section is curved in two planes aligning with the natural curvature of the heel. This provides a more natural and earlier heel strike to aid descending and contouring. Endurance Rubber Compound - This has been formulated for an optimal balance on wear and mixed terrain grip. Best grip, light weight

Maximum grip...these grip everything...right from mud to rock. The rubber is softer so they probably will not last as long, but when you need every step to count and cannot afford to slip on mixed surfaces there shoes are the best I have used. The convex heels are something you will really appreciate for grip descending but if you are a heel strike runner you are giving up stability on the hard packed ground. My wife who has a history of ankle injury feels the convex heel would make her more prone to roll her ankle but I have never had any problem. These shoes seem to run a half size larger than other inov-8 models but I was able to compensate with thicker socks.
