Product Description
The Extreme 160 XS skimmer is powered by the high performance Italian Sicce PSK-600 pinwheel pump. The skimmer comes equipped with a gate valve output to allow for precision control. The Sicce PSK600 pump has an improved star wheel impeller. The new PSK-600 are much more advanced than the previous PSK 2500 pump. Now with a digital circuit to control start up direction and speed, ultra low noise and huge air draw numbers, this pump is ready to perform with no modifications needed. The skimmers pump produces on average 23scfh of air pull using the provided pinwheel impeller. (Air results will vary depending on aquarium setup) Each Sicce pump draws less than 30watts of electricity. The collection cup has a quick release neck for easy removal for cleaning. It requires 1/2 inch of clearance to remove the cup. The Extreme XS skimmer uses metric plumbing parts.

It's bigger than you think

I was trying to decide between the XS160 and the XS200. I wanted to get the biggest skimmer I could fit in my sump, and I wasn't sure which to get for my tank, because quite frankly, measurements aren't always a good indication. Well, I got the XS160 (this one), and it barely fit in my 30g sump. It is by no means 'small', but I am quite happy with it.I got the unit from a local store and checked to make sure nothing was broken before heading home. Not an option for an online purchase, but when you can, you do it. Once I took it home, I took everything out of the box and spent way too long trying to put the thing together. The instructions basically said, "Hook it up like the picture, and ensure you install this o-ring". I did that, turned it on, and the o-ring came flying out. I guess it wasn't needed after all.As far as performance, this thing is a beast. The bubble column is amazing, and it has sucked a lot of 'goop' out of the water after only 4 days of use and it is super easy to dial in. The knob is easy to adjust and it works wonderfully, though it takes a minute or so to have the adjustments take effect, so make sure you adjust slowly.The only real complaint I have, other than the instructions, are as follows. There is no plumbing included for the drain, so if you don't have any extra plumbing parts, water splashes everywhere. I canabalized my old protein skimmer to make it quiet, and finally got it where I wanted, so no complaints from me, but I may end up redoing it once I find the parts I need. I expected that the drain would be 1 1/2" PVC, but when I tried that, it didn't fit. Need to get that figured out, and once I do, I'll update this.
