3Fine for backup, not for primary use

I recently purchased this Dayco XTX belt for a 2010 Grizzly 700. The durability of the belt seems to be good as when I took it back off after 400-500 miles it showed no signs of wear. For me that is where any positive comments end. I run 26" Grim Reapers on my Grizz and there are no other modifications, just to give full disclosureI fully broke the belt in for the first 40 miles keeping the throttle at roughly 1/2 or less and varying up the throttle input. I experienced decreased lower speed engine breaking. It was not nearly as effective at speeds below 20mph for engine breaking as the stock belt. At speeds 20-40mph it was probably as effective as the stock belt but anything below 20 it felt like it was not grabbing at the clutch sheeves near as effectively as the stock belt would. As for acceleration and engagement, I feel the stock belt engages better and faster at lower RPMs than the Dayco did. I also feel I had better mid-range acceleration and power with the stock belt. At the top end I felt no real difference between the two belts, I also don't spend a lot of time riding at speeds 40-45+, I mostly do trail/fire road riding as well as slow speed crawling.I noticed when installing the Dayco belt that it rides lower in the Primary clutch sheave than the stock belt does. From what little I know about these belts they will stretch (very, very little as I understand). The Yamaha belt will ride so that pretty much the entire portion of the top cogs are visible above the sheave and maybe even a little more than just the cogs. The Dayco belt (top cogs and all) was completely hidden behind the primary sheave, even after putting the 400-500 miles on this summer the Dayco was still riding in same position on the primary when I took the belt cover off (I think this would likely explain why the low end: both acceleration and engine braking isn't as good with the Dayco, the belt itself won't get into that lower end of the gearing on the clutch sheave).Cost wise, the Dayco is a less expensive belt when you shop around on the internet. Total purchase price for mine was $76 on Amazon due to a promotion they had running but the sale price before the promotion was right around $100. Typical price for stock Yamaha belt is $145-$155. While $50 seems like significant savings, this is likely a product you will be stuck with using for the next 4-5 years (depending on the miles you put on and how hard you ride). I really value my recreation time and $50 is nothing to spend to keep better performance. My Dayco XTX is now riding in my Quad Boss XT rear rack bag as a back up belt should I damage the stocker. Do not purchase this product unless you are buying for that reason, to serve as a less expensive "just in case" backup. Pay the extra money for a stock belt and do not look back. Now, I can't speak to how it may hold up for those who are running 30"-31" heavy mud tires. Perhaps for this type of riding the Dayco would be the way to go as it could be more durable than the stock belt but for the average to more aggressive trail rider who might also be running tracks in the winter time, STAY WITH THE STOCK BELT!
