By Mel Beckman
HP acquired 3Com last year and they have relabeled the 3Com Baseline Plus Switch 2900G - 28 port as the HP V1910G-24. It is a very capable switch, with excellent VLAN support, full SNMPv3, and some very handy built-in physical cable test capabilities. At this price (under five hundred dollars), this device is a real bargain. It still runs the 3Com firmware, and has a few unusual features (such as the 3Com "captcha" web management login security, which you can't disable). But there is no other switch as powerful as this one for the money.

We actually replaced all of our Cisco 2940 with Hp V1910 switches. As already told these ones are relabeled 3com 2900 series switches. 1 of the delivered of about 35 switches was actually DOA.One hint to all of you, always update all of your devices with the latest firmware when arrived. All of our devices had one of the first releases uploaded. We also tested the HP 2910al series first. As we don't need 10Gbit module slots, comparing the supported protocols and finally the price, we took the 3com ones, although the 3coms have to be managed over web interface, as the cli is somehow limited and warranty is "only" 3 years.Well, let's see in some weeks, months, years, whether this was a good or bad idea.

Excellent switches for money and they are managed. Make sure you update the firmware before you place into production though...
